Port Orange Regional Library
Auditorium
Every aviation and military history buff knows of Billy Mitchell. He is remembered as the father of the United States strategic bomber service, and for his famous court martial case.  But did you know that Mitchell helped organize and promote the first round the world flight expedition three years before Lindbergh flew. Author Spencer Lane recounts this four plane, 175 day flight, depicting the drama and obstacles overcome in this monumental effort.

In addition to the actual events of the flight itself, Lane details Mitchell’s organizational efforts which made it all possible. He also provides an account of Mitchell’s life before and after this event and analyses his troubles with his superiors. Mr. Lane will discuss this groundbreaking book on November 28, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Port Orange Library.
